Scenes from September Gardening

Gathering mint for tea and cookies. First frost will be the end of mint and other herbs for the season. Some will overwinter, such as mint, thyme, and oregano.

Happy Garden Gnome

This spinach is so delicious that we want to plant it again next season. Meanwhile, we will be eating it fresh until well after hard frost. Maybe even longer! When we uncovered the greens beds last April, there was some delicious spinach that had overwintered.

A salad of garden greens, garden squash, and local apples. The squash is creamy, moist Guatemalan blue. The greens include French sorrel, arugula, black seeded Simpson lettuce, spinach, and tat soy.
