The Garden at 485 Elm
People growing together:
a collaborative community garden in Montpelier, Vermont

With a Little Help from Our Friends at AmeriCorps

This week, an AmeriCorps Team of four made great strides in Compostville’s transformation. We’re revamping our compost system to have greater capacity for food scraps and a longer season of composting.

Compostville at The Garden at 485 Elm is one of four grant-funded Vermont pilot project sites for Food Scrap Composting in Community Gardens.

Vermont Youth AmeriCorps sends teams of young community members to do service in this garden and at other community sites. This year was another fun, productive day of service.

They spread compost on the loosened soil.

And weeded the perennial bed along the sidewalk. This is the first part of the garden neighbors and community members see. Keeping it beautiful is important to us.
