Prepping beds, planting corn
Albert tended these allium starts at home for weeks. Today they arrived at the garden for planting this week.
Albert also made and brought felafel. Between that and the apple crisp just out of the oven, this workday began with robust noshing and chatting.
Placing markers 12″ apart on both sides of the corn quadrant.
Adding compost to the quadrant of the corn bed marked for today’s planting. We are doing four corn plantings with two weeks between each. That way it won’t all be ready to pick at the same time.
Now we wait. And water. A lot.
Covering the rows where brassica will be planted in a few weeks.
Coffee bag walkways between the rows where we’ll plant broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts.
We like the look.
Last year, this was part of the cucumber bed. Now it’s a raised bed these gardens built. Then they added compost, Jerusalem artichoke transplanted from outside the garden fence, and water.
The Jerusalem artichoke bed is filled, watered, and labeled.
