There’s still collards, kale, mustards, collards, and Brussels sprouts growing in the garden. But after several frosts many annuals are done for the season.
Gardeners removed plants that are done for the season and laid them on the garden waste windrow to break down into next year’s compost. This includes eggplants, husk cherries, peppers, squash, sunflowers, and more.Spreading leaves on the beds keeps the snow from compacting the earth over the winter. Next season, the leaves will break down and add nutrients to the soil. In the background, Brussels sprouts continue to sweeten with each frost. We’ll harvest them in November.Here are the last of the tomatillos. Gardeners took them home to roast and freeze for a taste of the garden over the winter.We’re still harvesting carrots, which are looking their best.
