Here’s a glimpse into the workings of a collaborative community garden.
The gardeners at 485 Elm ask good questions. And if one gardener has a question, it’s a good bet others have the same question.
Here are a few from this week:
- Do people’s names in boxes on the watering chart mean that’s who watered there, or are people staking out the work they plan to do? When a gardener finishes a task (such as watering a particular bed), they write their name in the box.
- Do I uncover the garden fabric in order to water the covered rows? Water right through the row cover. Hold the hose sprayer on the plants about 1/3 longer than you normally would.
- The hose sprayed as much water on me as on the beds — is it broken? If water sprays out around the side of the nozzle, ensure the nozzle is screwed tightly onto the hose.
