From our friends at the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District (CVSWMD):

Whether you’re getting ready to start composting for the first time, or you have years of experience, this workshop will provide tips and ideas for both the newbie and the veteran composters.

Cassandra Hemenway from the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District will be teaching you how to set up new compost systems, how to make it simple and convenient, ways to minimize odors and pests, and maybe even demo how to build an inexpensive compost bin. We’ll talk about Vermont’s Universal Recycling Law, and how the landfill ban on organics relates to you.

If you already compost but want some new ideas or to troubleshoot problems, this is a great place to ask your questions.

Thanks to a grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, Soil Saver compost bins will be on-hand for sale at half off regular whole-sale rate. Everyone will go home with a free pail for kitchen food scrap collection and “The Dirt on Composting,” a guide to many different ways to compost.

Green Cone solar digesters will also be on site for purchase at wholesale, bulk-rate price.

CVSWMD will give out plans for making your own bin, but if you want to purchase a ready-made bin, fees are:

  • Soil Saver at half-price, $25
  • Green Cone at wholesale rate, $125
