The Garden in Winter

The garden sleeps. We don’t.

The garden is blanketed in snow. Compostville is still and frozen.
The tabletop leaning against the garden shed holds heavy snow. In the growing season, we spread and dry crops on the table’s mesh surface.
Garden managers Chris and Sheryl, who live onsite, walk the area and knock snow off the garden fences to keep them from stretching and breaking.
For the privilege of attending an excellent virtual composting workshop with our partners at the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District, we got a nifty food scraps bucket.
Meanwhile indoors, the donated seed we’ve applied for has begun arriving! Generous donations from companies like Victory Seeds allow us to grow food for each other, for donation through the Montpelier Food Pantry and Community Harvest of Central Vermont. Any seed we can’t use, we donate to the food pantry.
