Garden To-Dos

Here are some things you can come do in the garden before our big Day in the Dirt on April 27.

Please email the listserv (the-garden-at-485-elm@googlegroups.com) to let us know if you do any of these items. That helps other gardeners who might be planning to come pitch in too.

Row 1D – POLE BEANS
1. Remove dried-out pole bean vines from the trellis 
2. Put them in the garden waste windrow outside the fence by Compostville. (Look for the sign.)
Take and return whatever you need to do the task. Tools are in the little wooden garden shed. Wheelbarrows are under the solar panels.
Rows 2C and 5A – BRUSSELS SPROUTS
1. Pull up all the old Brussels sprouts plants.
2. Put them in the garden waste windrow outside the fence by Compostville. (Look for the sign.)
Take and return whatever you need to do the task. Tools are in the little wooden garden shed. Wheelbarrows are under the solar panels.

8B – Old Nasturtiums and Other Flowers
1. Pull out all the dried-out brown plant materials.
2. Put the dried-out plant material in the garden waste windrow outside the fence by Compostville. (Look for the sign.)
Take and return whatever you need to do the task. Tools are in the little wooden garden shed. Buckets are outside against the average wall. Wheelbarrows are under the solar panels.
8C- CHIVES
1. Break off dried out brown tops from perennial plants. Leave roots intact in the ground.
2. Put them in the garden waste windrow outside the fence by Compostville. (Look for the sign.)
Take and return whatever you need to do the task. Tools are in the little wooden garden shed. Buckets are outside against the average wall. Wheelbarrows are under the solar panels.

8M – LEMON BALM
1. Break off dried out brown tops from perennial plants. Leave roots intact in the ground.
2. Put them in the garden waste windrow outside the fence by Compostville. (Look for the sign.)
Take and return whatever you need to do the task. Tools are in the little wooden garden shed. Buckets are outside against the average wall. Wheelbarrows are under the solar panels.
Box 8Q: TOMATILLOS
1. Pull out all the dried-out brown plant material from these self-seeding plants.
2. Do NOT remove little seed balls (pictured here). Scatter them around the bed.
3. Put the dried-out plant material in the garden waste windrow outside the fence by Compostville. (Look for the sign.)

Box 8Q: TOMATILLOS: These are how tomatillos self-seed and come back each season. When we pull out the dried-out brown plant materials, we leave behind all the little seed balls (pictured here) and scatter them around the bed.
